"Name him now—he's ours," Cooper shouted through the ward doorway.
A nurse laughed as she passed a bundled, screeching curl of a baby into Luisa's arms. The baby made a tiny, furious face and then hiccupped, indifferent to the fuss around her.
"Cooper," Luisa said, amused and exhausted. "You're scaring him."
"I'm announcing our claim," Cooper said, grinning. "This one is officially claimed by the Zhangs."
"Claimed," the nurse echoed, smiling. "Congratulations, Mr. Zhang. Both babies are healthy."
From the next bed a muffled voice called, "Sound judgment, Zhang. Name him Cooper Junior and we'll match."
Cooper threw his head back and laughed. "No stealing my name. I won't let you give him a corporate title."
A man in a sharp suit lingered at the doorway, hands in his pockets, eyes amused. He introduced himself with a quick nod. "I'm Theo Lawson. Seen you around the charity dinners." His voice had a smooth, controlled edge.
"Lawson?" Cooper said. "Is that Galen's father?"
Theo's smile widened. "Galen's my son. The Lawsons brought a boy, too. We thought we might run into the Zhangs."
The nurse set down a clear plastic bassinet. Inside, a second baby yawned, smaller and pinker than the first. A woman leaning against the bedpost angled her head toward Luisa. "They make a cute pair already," she said.
"That settles it then," Cooper said, eyes bright. "We should shake on it. For tradition."
