"Why is there a car insurance in your apps?" Kataleya's voice was small but steady as she sat on the floor beside Greyson's bed.
"You're up?" Greyson mumbled without opening his eyes.
"I am now." Kataleya thumbed the screen again. "Try 0000."
"Don't," he said, sleep thick in his words.
She tried 0000 anyway.
The lock gave a soft buzz. Her thumb hovered over the phone like it could burn her.
"Don't," he said again, sitting up slower this time. "Kaya, go back to bed."
"I can't." She tapped the screen. "Why is AutoGuard on your phone?"
His hand came for the phone. He looked at her, bleary and honest in a way that should have been calming. "I put it there last month. For work."
"For work?" She read the header: AutoGuard — Policy 04-9X7. The policy holder wasn't his name. The registration image showed a black sedan. The name under it read L. Morales.
"Grey, whose car is that?" Her voice didn't shake.
He froze, then let out a small laugh that sounded wrong. "Some colleague's tag. They asked me to set up a payment."
"Who asked you to put their insurance on your phone?"
He kept reaching for the blanket, pretending to cover himself. "It's easier to split bills when it's on one account."
"Grey, this says the car is registered to L. Morales."
He blinked. "Morales? That's... an old neighbor. We take payments sometimes."
She slid the
